The Pulse of Entertainment: The Pulse of Entertainment: AGT's Dylan Gilmer Joins Nickelodeon in the New Tyler Perry
Sitcom ‘Young Dylan'
(March 10, 2020) - "Yea, we have lots in common, we both
have a passion for rapping...only difference is, I don't get in trouble like him," said Dylan Gilmer (Center in picture)
about his lead role in the new Tyler Perry sitcom "Young Dylan" loosely based on his
life.
"Young Dylan" premiered on Nickelodeon in February and airs on Saturdays at 8:30 (ET/PT). The show
follows young Dylan, an aspiring rapper, as he learns to adjust to life with his uncle and his strait-laced family that consist
of his wife, son and daughter.
Gilmer appeared on season 14 of "America's Got Talent" (AGT) at age of
10, a year later he has a starring role on Nickelodeon. Things are moving fast for Dylan and I am sure he too has had to adjust
to a different way of life. Being on Nickelodeon, the number one entertainment brand for kids isn't a bad adjustment.
"I feel great. Cause it's a blessing. I've only been acting for a couple months," said the young rapper. "Now
I have my own show...the main character on Nickelodeon!" Dylan Gilmer is a native of Maryland like me, him from
Annapolis and me from Baltimore. His skills as a rapper, at so young an age, landed him on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show"
and a performance during NBC's Allstar Weekend. Now, as part of the Nickelodeon family Dylan continues his rapid growth appearing
in the revival of "All That" and he will appear at the upcoming Nickelodeon SlimeFest on Saturday, March 21-22,
2020. Gilmer, represented by The Green Room and Felker, Toczek, Suddleson, and Abramson, has a talent deal with Telepictures,
a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Television.
"I want to do movies, have my own foundation and company," said
the very passionate young man, who I am sure will do outstanding things.
"Young Dylan" was created by
Tyler Perry and is produced by Tyler Perry Studios in Atlantic. It also stars Alona Wright (grandmother), Carl Anthony Payne,
II (uncle), Mieko Hillman (uncle's wife), Celina Smith (cousin), Hero Hunter (cousin) and Jet Miller (his new best friend).
Dylan's way of adjusting his affluent surroundings to his Hip-Hop life may just be what makes the nickelodeon audience laugh.
