The Pulse of Entertainment: Jazz Pianist Kayla Waters Release ‘Presence' July 7, 2023 on Shanachie Entertainment

(June 30, 2023)- "God," said Billboard Chart Topping Jazz keyboardist Kayla Waters about the meaning of her new album "Presence" (Shanachie Entertainment). "At first the name was ‘Abundance.' All the titles have to do with the ocean and all the elements...in the ocean. I used my love of God to show His presence."

Classically trained, Kayla is one of twins and the daughter of Jazz icon saxophonist Kim Waters (Regina Belle, Maysa). She started piano lessons at six years old because her parents saw a passion in her for music. Kayla has shared the stage with her father for many years and developed her own style described as Urban Smooth Jazz. This "Presence" album is her debut on her new label Shanachie Entertainment. Shanachie has a roster that includes her dad and Marion Meadows, Keiko Matsui, Hil St. Soul, Norman Brown, Isaac Carree, Najee, Jeff Lorber Fusion band, Jazz Funk Soul band, Teedra Moses, and Angie Stone.

"We were working on my third album and I said dad it's time to make a switch (in record labels)," Kayla said when I asked about her recent signing with Shanachie Entertainment. "Dad sent it over to Danny. My last album was in 2018...5 years since I had an album. But God's timing is so perfect. He opened the door to Shanachie."

Waters, who has garnered four #1 hits on Billboard, managed to stay at #1 for six weeks breaking a Billboard record. Kayla talked about how fortunate she is having Kim Waters as a dad that has a position in the industry that can help her. On the "Presence" album, her third project and first on the Shanachie imprint, there is production assistance from Kim Waters (The Sax Pack) and Grammy nominated Chris "Big Dog" Davis (Will Downing, Najee).

"He is actually based in Connecticut," the Howard graduate said about working with the legendary Jazz keyboardist "Big Dog". "I went there for a couple of days and brought my ideas on piano."
