The Pulse of Entertainment: Gospel's Kelontae Gavin Wants to ‘Testify' Through RCA Inspiration

(August 4, 2023) - "Worship University," said Stellar winning Kelontae Gavin about the name of one of his many ventures, which includes his third album "Testify" (RCA Inspiration). "...And Young Voices...we help business owners learn the business."

Someone recorded Gavin singing in his high school cafeteria, shared it online and it went viral. From there he became and overnight sensation. Today Kelontae Gavin has 55 million streams, a major record deal with RCA Inspiration, a Stellar Award and two Dove Award nominations. To watch him perform in music videos and on stage is to be inspired.

"It literally changed my life," he told me of the high school performance.

Gavin went back to when he was five years old when I asked, to tell me of the first time he realized he wanted to sing.

"I was in church, and they passed the mic to me...and the Pastor said, ‘What!'," Gavin said with a giggle in recalling his launch as a Gospel singer.

He has been on a mission since then to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Be it through his Worship University or other ventures he is focused on spreading hope.

"People need to see hope, not hear hope," he wisely said. "Gospel musicians...sing from a place of healing...the Gospel of Jesus Christ you know?"

The "Testify" album offers 15 songs and it features assistance from Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Kim Burrell, Amber Smith, and Kendall McDowell. Current singles at radio include "Live Again," "Good Love" featuring Kim Burrell, and "Take Rest."

"I'm constantly on the road," Kelontae told me about his life now at 24 years old. "In 2019 we had 150 - 160 dates. I absolutely love it!"

As you can see Gavin's word ministry and music ministry are now his life.
