The Pulse of Entertainment: A Review: The Pulse of Entertainment: Sandra Booker & The New Trio's ‘Reunion Concert' Album is Electrifying Music

(September 15, 2023) - Sandra Booker & The New Trio recently released "The Reunion Concert: Live From Pasadena Conservatory of Music Barrett Hall" (The Booker Group) album and it is electrifying in its Jazz simplicity. The range of styles of Jazz presented in the project is impressive from Big Band, Bebop to Swing. The album offers nine selections with originals and covers of Duke Ellington and Sarah Vaughan.

The members of The New Trio include Tamir Hendelman on piano, Robert Perkins on drums and Dave Robaire on upright bass. The project was recorded in 2015, but it took this long for Booker to get in a position to release it. "The Reunion Concert..." is produced by Sandra, who is also an author, and Brian Kessler from 8th Ward Girl Productions.

My favorite cuts on "The Reunion Concert..." album includes #1 "Over and Over Again" because Sandra Booker's vocals are electrifying, they pull you into the Swing era and the electric guitar solo is just sweet; the Duke Ellington classic #2 "In a Sentimental Mood" because the piano keys are lovely and Booker's vocals are perfection - reminding me of Nancy Wilson's style; #6 "What Made God?" because the piano keys are heavenly and her vocals are whimsically dancing on top of them; the George and Ira Gershwin classic #7 "But Not for Me" made popular thanks to Ella Fitzgerald, because in this version it makes you want to get up and dance, and #9 "The Song is You" because of its finger-popping vibe and her vocals is Jazz at its best.
