(April 9, 2024) - "A fan said...he could get the tape," said Jazz guitarist Chieli Minucci about his band Special EFX's live performance in Hungary being released by GR1193 Records in March as "Return to Budapest with Love." "We knew it was being recorded they were involved in the concert. There were a lot of people at the shows."

On March 8, 2024 Grammy nominated Special EFX featuring Chieli Minucci released "Return to Budapest with Love" (GR1193 Records/Chieli Music) a lovely recording of their performances in Hungary which features co-founder of the band Hungarian percussionist George Jinda. The live recorded performances took place in 1990 and 1992 at the famed Petofi Csarnok. It was recorded by a Hungarian radio station and is now available on both CD and digitally. It was Jazz Fusion group Djabe's bandleader and guitarist Attila Egerhazi that came up with the idea to release the archived recording.

"Maybe, we've been touring a lot. You know we play two of George's songs to honor him."," Chieli said when I asked if Special EFX was coming back to Spaghettini, which is near me in Seal Beach, California.

The Special EFX band at the time included Chieli, George, Chiele's frequent songwriter Bela "Szakesi" Lakatos on piano, Lionel Cordew on drums, and Gerald Veasley on bass. Minucci is the only surviving founding member keeping the Special EFX legacy going after 42 years.

"I picked the songs....so they can hear George," Chieli said as we talked about his late partner. "This record has a lot of energy....what they call Smooth Jazz. He (George) played so well at these shows (George passed away a little over 10 years after the concerts)."

Chieli is fluent in not only Jazz, but Pop R&B, and Rock. As a guitarist Minucci has played for Celine Dion, Lionel Richie, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Michael Bolton, Eartha Kitt, Kirk Whalum, Maysa, Jeff Lorber, Norman Brown and Rick Braun - to name a few. Minucci is a three-time Emmy winning composer with works in such films as No Country for Old Men, BowFinger, Legally Blonde and Panic. He also has Broadway theatre work credits that include Peter Pan, Dora the Explorer, and Thomas the Tank Engine. www.ChieliMusic.com
