The Pulse of Entertainment: Lisa
Knowles-Smith & The Brown Singers Win Two Stellar Awards for ‘Live In Memphis 2'; Lisa Performs with Ricky Dillard
at 39th Stellar Gospel Music Awards
(September 3, 2024) - "I became lead singer at 12. It's my family's,
I was born into the group," said Lisa Knowles-Smith about the three-time Stellar Award-winning Gospel group The Brown
Singers, now known as Lisa Knowles-Smith & The Brown Singers.
The group also consist of founding member Vanessa Brown Knowles, Jackienna Richmond, Sierra Ward-Pop and Rachel Anderson.
They are currently promoting the "Right On Time" single off the "Live in Memphis 2" project
and celebrating their two Stellar wins for the new album.
"My mother (Vanessa)
and my grandmother (Willie Mae Brown-Richmond) started the group (in 1976)," she added.
Lisa Knowles-Smith and The Brown
Singers' latest album "Live in Memphis 2" recently garnered the group another two Stellar Award wins. The wins were
for Traditional Duo/Chorus of the Year and Quartet of the Year categories. Lisa performed at the 39th Stellar Gospel Music
Awards with Ricky Dillard. It aired on BET and Stellar Network on August. 3, 2024, hosted by comedian Rickey Smiley and Loni
Love. It airs again in syndication August 10th - September 8th.
Lisa's performance is high-energy, she gets the Gospel party started!
I asked about that church's response to her style of performance, and she said, "We all praise different. I think they
never did (respond negatively). I grew up with a church that allow us to be free to praise God. My grandfather was pastor,
and I was Minister of Music for 16 years. We were always allowed freedom."
Lisa Knowles-Smith is now a leader of a church,
"I serve as a pastor," she told me when I asked about her new church. "Back then The Browns (sang in church)
started in the 70's. My grandfather was pastor then, he has gone on to be with the Lord. My mother is still there. She has
been Youth Director for 25 years. I relocated to Alabama. I've been here for nine years."
In 2015 the Gospel group
won a Stellar Award for "The Evolution" album which The Brown Singers performed at with the late Bishop Rance Allen.
The Stellar Gospel Music Awards is a Central City Productions premiere event. The legendary The Brown Singers have been touring
from day one of its launch.
"I love it," Lisa Knowles-Smith said when I asked about the constant performing since
age of 9 (She joined the group at nine and became lead singer at 12). "The traveling!! I still love it and can do it
all day and all night." www.IAmLisaKnowlesSmith.com
