The Pulse of Entertainment: Shelby 5 Release Debut ‘S5' on Tribl Records, Newest Single ‘None Ya Business' Releases Music Video
by Dr. Eunice Moseley
(September 13, 2024) - "It's important for us to write from a life
perspective," said Don Shelby of the Contemporary Gospel group Shelby 5 (S5)
about their debut album "S5" (Tribl Records).
The group Shelby 5 consist of siblings
Don, Courtney, Andrea, Trent and Amber. I spoke with Amber, Trent and Don. They are currently promoting the debut album's
single "None Ya Business" which is accompanied by a music video.
"We believe in...sharing
Jesus by any means necessary," Amber Shelby added.
Not only does Shelby 5 give you the Gospel
of Jesus Christ in a contemporary way through lyrics by in sound. They have a very tight harmony. Some define the Shelby 5
sound as Urban-Infused.
"It's for our generation," Amber said. "Who don't know the Word."
"In
a creative way," Trent Shelby pointed out. "It's packaged with the Gospel...with a melody
that they'll pay attention to."
Shelby 5 said they are loving the process of spreading the Gospel through songwriting
and music. Their "S5" debut features three-time BET Award winning Gospel rapper LaCrea on the single "Boom."
"We've
been known for our A Capella singing on social media," Trent said about their rapidly growing fan-base.
The Detroit
natives, who are ages 35 - 26, also feature assistant from Stellar Award winning Jason Nelson on the single "Use Me."
"We
merge both worlds (traditional gospel with contemporary)," Trent added.
When I asked about their "humble beginnings"
Don said, "It was when we were young. I was 10 or 12, Amber was on the bottle! We knew we had something. My mother is
an accomplished singer and dad started a ministry. Mom taught us three-part harmony. Yes, we knew we had something...we were
winning the competitions too!"
"Shout-out to our parents,"
Don added with a slight laugh as we ended the interview. www.Tribl.com
