The Pulse of Entertainment: Blaine Krauss is Alexander Hamilton in the Broadway Musical; The Blaine Krauss ‘From
the Soul' Show is on Tour
by Dr. Eunice Moseley
(October 4, 2024) - "Hamilton is 90% rap," said Blaine
Krauss, who just acquired the Broadway role of Alexander Hamilton permanently, when I
asked about his singing voice being displayed in such a high-profile musical as Hamilton.
Blaine's voice is now on tour with his From The Soul Show and
was recently heard in Los Angeles at the infamous Catalina Jazz Club - with a 12-piece band!
"Playing (Alexander) Hamilton
means you sing the least," the Tampa Bay native laughed a bit as he pointed that out because I was so excited for him
to be able to share his voice at such as high-profile musical. "I had the role full-time since the beginning of March.
I've been, on and off, with the tour for four years. I went from a standby to permanent."
What a journey for the
theatre student who graduated from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and went directly to Broadway in
the Lion King as Simba. Like all journeys Blaine's started at home.
"My aunts sing in church," he said when
I asked if singing was in his blood. "My dad can sing. He's a DJ and musician. He retired from the Army...lover of Hip-Hop.
But I'm the only one that sings all the time."
"I was doing professional theatre since college. I was in the Lion
King after college," Krauss recalls. "I can't think of a time I did not want to be a performer."
The Hamilton
musical is performed six days a week and curtain call is 1pmEST and 7pmEST (only 1pm on Sundays and Tuesdays) at the Richard
Roger Theatre (226 West 46th) in New York.
"The show is eight times a week, four shows on the weekend," Blaine pointed
out to me. "Being Hamilton...I'm realizing how challenging it is. When I walk on stage...I'm trusting...I know the story...and
it doesn't have to be (performed) the same the next day. The challenge is in giving a great performance each time."
"I
like story telling...I drifted into acting. I tapped into that as I got older," he added. "Connecting with your
audience...it's all art, a reflection of who we are."
Blaine Krauss says he is rooted in R&B and Soul, with a little "modern
music." His credits also include performing on Broadway in The Cher Show and Kinky Boots and a television role in "Pose."
He has performed with symphonies across seven continents and will be performing October 10, 2024 with the London Philharmonic
Orchestra at 8pm. www.HamiltonMusical.com
