(March 11, 2025) - "(‘Catalonia') It's the region in northeast Spain that encompasses Barcelona," said four-time Billboard chart-topping Jazz guitarist Peter White about the name of the first single from his 17th album release "Light of Day" (Lobster Music). "All those who like the Gypsy Kings would like it. I was channeling them...when the drums stop, then the guitar...that's where the Spanish guitar (sound) comes from."

The "Catalonia" single, influenced by the music of the late Jazz guitarist Nick Colionne, is one of 10 selections on the "Light of Day" project that features assistance from trumpeter Rick Braun, Hollywood International Music Award winning trumpeter ILya Serov, two-time Grammy winning saxophonist Ernie Watts, and Billboard Smooth Jazz Artist of the Year winning saxophonist Vincent Ingla. Peter White has been in the Jazz industry for 50 years, and a solo musician for 35 years. Since then, he has left a major impact on the Jazz genre, even though he plays fluently Latin, R&B and Pop.

"I didn't listen to a lot of Latin music growing up, until I started playing with Lady Basia," Peter told me as we discussed his Latin influences, which can be heard on the new project. "My young brother got me into that (Latin) scene. I was 19 when I started as a professional musician playing the Top 40s. I brother was still in school. He was following me...when he formed a band - Matt Bianco...they're very popular in Europe - Pop/Latin. I was playing with Al Stewart's band...Rock music when I started playing my own music."

Born in England and a resident of Los Angeles White also plays the bass, keyboards, and accordion. He got into being a "professional" musician when his brother Danny White (founder of Matt Bianco) asked him to play on the Matt Bianco debut album "Whose Side Are You On?" in 1984. He went on to play for others such as four-time Grammy nominated saxophonist Boney James; trumpeter Rick Braun; Grammy nominated saxophonist Richard Elliott; Grammy winning saxophonist Grover Washington, Jr.; Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award recipient saxophonist Gerald Albright; Grammy nominated saxophonist Dave Koz and NAACP Image Award nominated pianist Brian Culbertson. In 1990 he released his solo debut album "Reveillez-Vous". One of his solo projects released in 1998 featured Grover Washington, Jr. ("Midnight in Manhattan"). Future projects would feature two-time Grammy winning keyboardist Bob James, six-time Grammy winning saxophonist David Sanborn, and Rick Braun.

Peter White has also accumulated a large number of awards and honors such as the Smooth Jazz Musicians honor (2007)' Canadian Smooth Jazz honor; Best Guitarist at the National Smooth Jazz Awards (2000-2003), and three Oasis Contemporary Jazz Awards. The "Light of Day" album also has the assistance of drummer Eric Valentine' keyboardist Frank Joseph (co-writer of "Enchanted"); harmonica player Marc Macisso; bass player David Dyson, and bass player Nate Phillips. Other producers include Billboard chart-topping Mike Egizi.

"The single is #14 on Billboard charts," Peter added as we ended our interview. "It's interesting to see."  www.PeterWhite.com
