The Pulse of Entertainment: Kimberly Brewer Releases ‘If I Ever Lose This Heaven' Cover, featuring Flutist
Ragan Whiteside, produced by Grammy nominated Chris ‘Big Dog' Davis
by Dr. Eunice Moseley

(May 9, 2025) - "It's a blessing and a curse," laughed Jazz/R&B
vocalist Kimberly Brewer when I mentioned that she has a sexy sounding voice on her new single,
a cover of Quincy Jones' "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" (Kimberlily Records). "Now, you
know why I don't sing Gospel!"
I complimented her on her long history in the music industry, and she said, "Yes,
I've been a background vocalist for a few folks."
Kimberly was being modest, the "few folks" she is referring
to happens to be icons Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Vanessa Williams, Regina Belle, Boney James, Will Downing, Julio Inglesias,
Earth, Wind & Fire - just to name a "few."
Now she is releasing her own material and the "If I Ever Lose This
Heaven" cover is one of those solo projects.
"I wanted to compliment
it and not change it too much," she said when I ask about how they approached covering the hit single. "To redo
that song...I'm a big fan of Quincy."
She said bass player Byron Miller, "...was
having a conversation with Chris Davis, said he was looking for a song for me, had it done with his niece (flutist Ragan)
on it. I just laid my vocals over it."
"I going to put out an EP," she added as we continued to talk about her solo
projects.
The EP titled "Tasting Sunshine" will feature assistance from eight-time Grammy winning vocalist Mark Kibble
(Take 6) and nine-time Grammy nominated saxophonist Gerald Albright.
The "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" cover is
produced by two-time Grammy nominated Chris "Big Dog" Davis and features the flute playing of Billboard hitmaker
Ragan Whiteside. Bass player Byron Miller, who came up with the idea for the new single, provides support as well.
"I sang background vocals for Mickie Howard. I auditioned and she took me on,"
Brewer said when I asked about her humble beginnings. "I went on to tour with her."
Kimberly went on to say while on tour the Mickie Howard band's sax player told her about Stevie Wonder having an
audition for backup singers.
"He was late....and I was sleepy," she laughed a little as she told me the story of the
Stevie Wonder audition. "He took me into a private room and said he wanted me to sing more."
And as they say, the rest
is history.
In 2020 Kimberly released an EP, "Just That Sweet To Me," that featured Stevie Wonder, Joe, Walter
Beasley and Maysa. She worked as a backup vocalist for Stevie Wonder for 14 years and is a featured vocalist on his single
"I Love You More." www.KimberlyBrewer.com
