The Pulse of Entertainment: Famed Backup Singer Dossi Minor Steps into the
Spotlight with a String of Solo Singles

(May 13, 2025) - "My cousin...gave me my first shot," said R&B
vocalist Dossi Minor when I asked how she became the backup singer for the O' Jays. "It was
ten years later - when I was 26 - that my husband (Earl Minor) was doing a tour with a local artist. They were out with KEM...my
husband plays keyboard...and he mentioned my name (for a possible backup singer for the O'Jays). I didn't even have to audition.
It was just two of us."
Cleveland born Dossi goes on to tell me that when the COVID pandemic hit she took the
opportunity in 2020 to spend more time with her daughter Eden and husband Earl. No longer on tour, she began to record her
own music produced by husband Earl Minor. She did not debut until 2022 with the single "Falling in Love." Then
she released the single "I Want You," with "Without You" following.
It was those projects that caught my eye, and I reached out for her to perform the single "Without You" at my entertainment
conference called Uplifting Minds II. She walked away with the 2025 ULMII Best Artist Award.
"It was an opportunity to perform,"
Dossi said when I thanked her for performing at my ULMII entertainment conference. "I appreciate you giving indie artists
a platform."
"I used to sing background for Duran Bernarr," she pointed out as we talked about how hard it is
for indie artists to be heard. "He was indie, but he is a superstar now (a Grammy nominated artist). It took him 10 years
to get there though, and he continues to put (music) in the world."
Born, Ashley, she changed her name to Dossi in honor
of her cousin Doss who gave her the first touring gig as a backup singer. The O'Jays, a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group,
had Dossi on tour constantly from 2015 - 2020. If you know about legendary groups, their touring never stops. As a result,
she has performed in the same shows with The Isley Brothers, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Brandy, Jennifer Hudson
and Fantasia.
"I love singing background," she said of her career so far. "I've been writing my own music
for years. People say, ‘You should sing (as a solo artist).' In 2022 I released my first single because I decided I
must be heard."
Minor attended the Cleveland School of the Arts and at 16 years-old she went on tour with her cousin,
a BET J "Best Underground Artist" Virtual Award winner Neo/Soul singer Conya Doss. Dossi actually started singing
at the age of five with her father's quartet, a Gospel group.
"I just make music because I love it. My latest single is 'Addicted',"
Dossi reaffirmed to me as we ended our talk. www.DossiMusic.com
