The Pulse of Entertainment: Guitarist dee Brown Releases 6th Album ‘Mister Smooth' on Innervision Records
‘Mayday'
by Dr. Eunice Moseley

(June 10, 2025) - "He is a character...a representation," said Jazz
guitarist dee Brown (Demitris Edwards Brown), with a slight laugh, about the meaning to the title
of his new album "Mister Smooth" (Innervision). "I'm not mister smooth. I started
working on it two years ago watching TV or something and I saw...for some reason a guy....and I said he looks like mister
smooth. Whatever this person was doing, it looked so smooth."
Well, dee Brown's version of mister smooth is a project
that offers 10 selections of smooth produced by Grammy nominated Valdez Brantley (Usher, Mary J Blige).
"My producer (Valdez)
is a long-time friend," said the Detroit native. "He is an awesome keyboard player. He played with Mary J Blige
and was Usher's music director for 10 years. We collaborated on a few songs. He made every album except one. He produced this
one, every song but one. His brother plays bass and is the music director for Lady GaGa."
Other musicians on "Mister
Smooth" include guitarist Blake Aaron who also produced the song he is on "Wes 8Mile" - one of the singles
off the album. The first single was "You Already Know." Blake also appears on "The Thing is..." with horn
man David Mann, and keyboardist Tateng Katindig. "Mister Smooth" also includes saxophonist Mike Parlett; guitarist
Wes Montogomery' keyboardist Carnell Harrell; bass player Mel Brown; saxophonist Merlon Devine, and drummer Tony Moore. Brown
includes his Christmas single released last year on the new album a cover of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"
which features musicians Ron Otis on drums, Lanar Brantley on bass and vocals by Jayla Treasure - a Praise & Worship leader/singer.
"They
all live in Detroit," dee said when I asked about the long list of musicians on the project. "There are some people
outside of Detroit like Blake Aaron."
The Jazz guitarist debuted in 2007 with the album "No Time to Waste." He
went on and wasted no time in sharing the stage with or record with George Benson, Al Jarreau, Stephanie Mills, Gerald Albright,
Mindi Abair, Paul Brown, Paul Taylor, Jeffrey Osborne, Aretha Franklin and Bebe Winans. "Mister Smooth" is dee Brown's
sixth studio album. www.deeBrownJazz.com
