(August 5, 2025) - "I was actually an artist on Def Jam," said Jevon Dewand as we talked about his new single "It's Not Over" (Blacksmoke World Wide Music) featuring Jazze Pha, Gaz Money and Charnel Allen.

I asked the #1 Billboard Chart-topping singer how he "hooked up" with legend producer Jazze Pha (Beyonce, Ciara, T.I.) and he answered with a slight laugh, "...he said $25,000 to record."

So, Jevon recorded his Hip-Hop Gospel hit "Without You: There Would Be No Me" with Jazze Pha, the music legend who has produced music for many iconic artists. The "Without You: There Would Be No Me" single reach #1 on Billboard's Gospel Chart and also featured Zacardi Cortez and Gasner the Artist. Jevon also garnered three Stellar Award nominations (Album of the Year, Song of the Year for ‘Fa Real..Fa real', and Urban Single of the Year).

Jevon's run at Def Jam was a good one. He released a single that became a hit titled "Hollywood." That is where he actual met Jazze who produced his Def Jam single.

"I do a lot of things," he said when I asked about the Gospel and R&B history, and being a producer, director, actor and speaker by trade. " ‘Hollywood' (is about the hood) is clean. Sold 700,000.. We (Jazze Pha) built a relationship and started working on other things. We best friends now!"

I told Jevon if he gave me $25,000 I'd be his best friend too!!

"He's worth 25 trillion," Dewand pointed out as we laughed. "He's a super super legend. As a person he is better than that. He does nothing but give. He is always presenting something. Two weeks ago, I said I gave you something you never had...a #1 Billboard Gospel hit. If anyone has a problem with him, something is wrong with them."

Jevon's stage name is actually Jevon Dewand & The Trap Starz and no, The Trap Starz are not a group or choir, it's a mind-set.

"I call it trap stars because it's our culture...feeling trapped, but when you use your talents...that involves your purpose...your passion that's when you become a star," he pointed out.

Jewon said it was at Def Jam where he also met Snoop Dogg who inspired this mindset in him.

"Shout-out to Snoop Dogg," he said as if Snoop was sitting next to me.

"It became a mind-set to use for our (culture's) talent," he continued. "I bring a lot of people (with him) and every time I bring someone new...new dancers. To help them break-through. To help somebody dream."
The new single "It's Not Over" features Jazze Pha, along with Gaz Money and vocalist Charnell Allen. It is about turning pain into purpose.
