The Pulse of Entertainment: A Review - The Robin Simone Hollywood Orchestra Gives a Million Dollar Performance at Herb Alpert's Vibrato Jazz Restaurant in Bel Air

(August 19, 2025) - "Thank you good Dr.," said three-time Billboard Chart-Topping Robin Simone to me after her almost two-hour performance with her 18-piece orchestra, The Robin Simone Hollywood Orchestra, which was led by the very animated conductor Charley Harrison.

I went to her full-house show to review her performance for my column, and I walked away saying, "This was a million-dollar show." In fact, the doorman introduced me to the owner's wife once he found out I was there to review the orchestra and that is what I told her when she asked how I liked my experience; I said Robin Simone's orchestra is worth a million dollars. She said, "Yes, there are really good."

Vocally impressive with her range and tone, Robin Simone took the audience through a history lesson of classic movie tunes. She even interacted with her audience asking them their favorite Broadway tunes and then performed a song from most Broadway shows shouted from the audience.

The 18-piece orchestra (that includes the conductor) all seem to be having a great time. Sometimes they enacted some of the words of the song and other times they actually sang along - expertly. Bravo!

Robin, along with being a very talented singer, also possess the elegance of Diana Ross when she performs and the showmanship and dance moves of Lena Horn. Simone started out as a vocalist for a well-established Big Band director (Kenny Brurrell) who stepped away from performing at one point and that is when Robin approached his conductor to continue performing with her taking over as director. As they say the rest is history. The Robin Simone Hollywood Orchestra was born, and they perform, according to Robin, all over Los Angeles - all the time.

The audience really enjoyed themselves participating as she asked them questions. Simone even let one audience member sing a "Broadway" tune, and he sounded pretty good. As the orchestra sang "I want candy" a chorus of a tune she performed, Robin gave out customized chocolates.

The Herb Alpert Vibrato Jazz restaurant was launched in 2004 by the Tony Award and eight-time Grammy Award winning trumpeter and pianist Herb Alpert ("This Guys In Love With You"). It is nestled at the top of a hill in Bel Air, California. The ride there offers a picturesque view as you climb the mountain to get to the classically stylish venue. The interior is visually superb, and the service and food is fit for a king or queen.

Robin Simone, who recently debuted as a recording artist with the release of her "Robin Simone Hollywood Orchestra" (Picturesque Records) album, also showed the depth of her versatility in her song selections, even showing the original flow of rap - rapid singing - that was birth in this classic Jazz era. She sang not only Jazz selections, but Classic Pop and R&B. Robin Simone is a legend in the making and has the talent to back up my claim because of her vocal range and performance style. Her orchestra is powerful in their sound; explosive is a true match for what I heard. Each musician is of top-tier quality.  www.RSho.biz
