Shanachie's World Music Icon Hil St. Soul Releases ‘Nasalifya (Thank You)', a Tribute to Her #1 Fan
(May 19, 2026) - "I was working on the album for about
a two-year period," said Shanachie Entertainment World Music artist Hil St. Soul (Hilary Mwelwa) about
the release of her "Nasalifya (Thank You)" album this month. "I was mid-way through when my
dad passed away. He was the one who introduced me to the music that I love."
"It became a tribute to him...for being my inspiration. To show him the impact he had on me," she stated.
"It's
the first time I lost someone very dear to me," Hil continued about her father's impact on your career as a World Music
artist. "I lost people...but this...it was difficult navigating."
"My dad was very instrumental
in my career," she pointed out. "My #1 cheerleader and fan. He'd be there anywhere I perform. Dad would always come
to my shows - him and mom. I am still feeling him."
"He played a special song all the time," the Soul Tracks Readers'
"Choice Award" winner continued about her father's influence on her career.
About the "Nasalifya (Thank
You)" album St. Soul said, "The music is quite Spiritual."
This Shanachie Entertainment release is her 6th album,
and it offers 11 tracks. The title of the album is in her mother's language Namwanga. It did not start as a tribute to her
father, but "Nasalifya (Thank You)" is Hil St. Soul's way of honoring the legacy of her father who passed in 2024.
The music video for the title track has accumulated 12,000 views in less than a month. Her YouTube Channel has 4,000 subscribers
and has over 450,000 views total.
"He heard the first song I recorded...it was on the radio here," the Zambian native pointed
out when I asked if her father was aware of her world-wide success.
Currently residing in London since she was five years
old, she often returns home to Zambia. In fact, during our interview she was back home to console her mother and make arrangements
for her due to her father's passing.
