The Pulse of Entertainment: Bassist Michael Feinberg Makes Debut, ‘Blues Variant,' on Criss Cross Jazz

(January 20, 2022) - "How could I say no," said bassist Michael Feinberg about his record deal with Criss Cross Jazz and the consequent release of his solo debut album "Blues Variant." "This particular label...put out iconic artists in Jazz. This is one I've always wanted to be signed to."

Michael's debut "Blues Variant" features assistance from Noah Preminger (sax) and Leo Genovese (piano). The project also features Dave Liebman (drums), and Nasheet Waits (drums).

"I have a core group (Nasheet, Leo, and Noah). We kind of understand each other's musical language," Feinberg said.

"I had ideas," Michael continued about his solo debut album. "With music you never know how it's going to come out, you know Jazz. The best part are the mistakes, how it's manipulated by the players. It tells the story I want to tell, conceptionally what Blues means."

"I wrote six (songs on the album)," he said. "Other musicians contributed compositions as well....and one is by Herbie Hancock I did."

As a bass player Michael not only plays Jazz and Blues, but Latin and Pop. He started his professional career as a bassist at the age of 16 in his hometown of Atlanta. He attended the Frost Conservatory of Music in Miami, Florida and played with The Elvin Jones Project.

Michael Feinberg goes on tour April 2nd in Hartford, CT with Jonathan Barber, Noah Preminger, and Axel Tosca, continues with Tim Green, Davis Whitfield, and Dana Hawkins in May starting in Savannah, GA, and ends with Terreon Gully, Benito Gonzalez, Noah Preminger at the end of May in Munich, Germany.
