The Pulse of Entertainment: Brian Thomas'
‘On the Bone' Takes You on a Sweet Ride That Blows You Away (February 14, 2023) - Brian Thomas' "On The Bone" album
takes you on a sweet ride that blows you away. As I reviewed the five-track album that has a bonus selection to offer as well,
I noticed the support this trombonist, Brian Thomas, received. There is Johnny Trama on guitar; Darby Wolf on organ; Tom Arey
on drums; Yahuba Garcia-Torres on congas; Scott Mayo on alto sax, and Mike Tucker on tenor sax.
"On the Bone"
was produced by Thomas and recorded and mastered by Alan Evans (Soulive) at Iron Wax Studios. Brian studied Classical and
Jazz improvisation at Ithaca College and earned a master's degree in Jazz composition at UMASS Amherst. He currently serves
as instrumental ensembles director at Canton High School. "On the Bone" is his 11th solo album.
The "On
the Bone" project blows you away with the trombone skills of Thomas and the sweet sounds of his featured musicians take
you on a ride of Jazz, Soul, and Funk. My favorites on the project include #1 "Turn On" because everyone gets a
solo that is laced with Brian's trombone skills prominently heard which is so cool, plus the guitar skills of Johnny are outstanding,
the sax skills of Scott are genius, and even the organist Darby did his thing. I also like #2 "Orange Tape" because
of how Tom's drums go crazy giving it that go-go era feel, and the guitar skills of Johnny solidified that era sound. www.BrianThomasTrombone.com SYNDICATED
