(March 7, 2023) - "In this album I am uninhibited," said Jazz pianist Kevin Toney about his newest live album release "An Evening with Kevin Toney and Friends - Jazz Legacy". "I'm celebrating 50 years."

The "...Jazz Legacy" project offers eight tracks and four intros. Featured on the live album with Kevin are Azar Lawrence on sax, Kamau Kenyatta on sax, and his daughter Dominique Toney on vocals.

"We had her playing piano at eight," he said about Dominique, who is also an actress. "Didn't know about her vocals until high school. She came home second year in college and sang a song for me. I said, ‘Let's record!' She had me record other people's songs (covers)...I started to put her on gigs. Azar I've known him for the last five years. We've gotten close as brothers. We get to show the world...what we have here. It's a father/daughter album."

Kevin Toney is also an original member of the band Blackbyrd, also celebrating 50 years in music. A Detroit native, Toney went to Howard University in Washington, DC where his son was born.

"This is my first live album with my name on it. I'm like a kid in a candy store," he laughed. "I was excited to record live...so people can hear what I sound like. I haven't made a solo record for 40 years."
