(August 28, 2020) - Curb Records recently released the Fisk Jubilee Singers' "Celebrate Fisk!" album executive produced by two-time Grammy winning Shannon Sanders (John Legend), in celebration of 150 years since the establishment of Fisk University. The "Celebrate Fisk!" project highlights the iconic vocals of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, formed five years after Fisk University to help bring funding in. Fisk University was formed 150 years ago just after the Civil War to educate ages seven to 70 who were once enslaved. The "Celebrate Fisk!" project offers 12 selections and features vocal assistance from Cece Winans, Lee Ann Womack, Derek Minor and Sanders.

"He look at me and said, ‘Handle that', said Shannon Sanders (Heather Headley, Jill Scott) about how he received the monumental task of executive producing the "Celebrate Fisk!' project. The task of recording the Fisk Jubilee Singers came from their musical director Dr. Paul Kwami. Shannon went on to explain, "That was five years ago. At first we were just recording for archival purposes. We had no idea we were making an album. The single ‘Glory/Stranger' is one of those nights recording live...and we didn't know we were making a record. We could've been better and there were technical things. We were really focused on the performance part."

Before producing an epic project celebrating such a historic institute as Fisk University, Sanders has produced other major projects garnering him two Emmys, one Dove and of course his Grammy.

"He knows what I do," he said about his relationship with the Fisk Jubilee Singers' musical director Dr. Paul Kwami. "I'm City Commissioner and cultural affairs...was giving her report and mentioned a concert coming up. I said put me in the game!"

"Celebrate Fisk!" is produced by Shannon, Jim Ed Norman and Mike Curb and released on the Curb Records imprint. Dr. Kwami serves as the albums' musical director and Shannon Sanders as its executive producer. "The Fisk Jubilee Singers Celebrate Fisk! (The 150th Anniversary Album" has 10 different featured artists which also include Ruby Amanfu, Keb' Mo' and Rodney Atkins.
